La femme est plus proche d’Hachem

La répartition claire, dans la Torah, entre les hommes et les femmes et les rôles attribués à chacun, nous amène à penser plus d’une fois : quel est le rôle le plus important ?

D’une part, nous voyons que l’homme prononce la bénédiction chaque matin “qui ne m’a pas fait femme” et ainsi remercie D.ieu d’avoir l’obligation d’accomplir de nombreuses Mitsvot et d’étudier la Torah. Ceci montre, à première vue, que d’en-haut, cette tâche est considérée de la première importance.

D’autre part, les femmes récitent “qui m’a faite selon sa volonté” et déclarent, de cette manière, qu’elles constituent la volonté d’Hachem par le fait même d’exister. Et même la louange qui leur est adressée d’être “une femme vertueuse couronne de son mari”(Michlé 12, 4) les place comme la parure de leur mari, autrement dit, comme plus grande et plus importante que lui.
Qui donc est plus important que l’autre ?

Le Maharal, dans son explication sur la Torah, répond qu’une femme est, par sa nature même, plus proche d’Hachem. C’est pourquoi, elle n’a pas besoin de peiner dans l’étude de la Torah et dans l’accomplissement des Mitsvot pour briser ses instincts et son mauvais penchant.

La paracha commence par le récit du ‘hessed incroyable qu’Avraham Avinou fit avec les trois anges. Tout de suite après, on nous relate la visite des anges à Sodome et la façon dont cette ville fut détruite ensuite.

Le rav Yaacov Kamenetsky zatsal fait une remarque intéressante quant à la juxtaposition de ces deux incidents ; tous deux mettent l’accent sur la hakhnassat or’him (l’accueil réservé aux invités) [1].

L’histoire d’Avraham est l’exemple type de l’attitude à avoir lorsqu’on reçoit des invités et la façon optimale de subvenir aux besoins de ces derniers. Nous voyons comment Avraham ignore son propre état de santé, n’épargnant aucun effort pour mettre ses invités le plus à l’aise possible.

Immédiatement après, la Thora nous mène vers la ville de Sodome et nous montre l’antipathie de ses habitants pour cette même mitsva, la hakhnassat or’him. Nous voyons que la vie de Loth est menacée parce qu’il nourrit et loge des visiteurs étrangers. Pourquoi la Thora insiste-t-elle sur le contraste marqué entre Avraham et les habitants de Sodome ?

Samedi soir dernier à Jerusalem dans le quartier de Bayt Vegan, s’est tenue une soirée de Hespedim (oraisons funèbres) au sein du Beth-Hamidrach du Rav Arouas, en l’honneur de notre maître Rav Ovadia Yossef.

Le président du consistoire israélite de Marseille, M. Zvi Ammar, était présent et a fait l’honneur de s’exprimer, lui qui a connu le Gadol Hador de près pendant des dizaines d’années.

Il est écrit dans la Paracha Vayéra (18, 3) : וַיֹּאמַר אֲדֹנָי אִם נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ אַל נָא תַעֲברֹ מֵעַל עַבְדֶּךָ (Et il dit : ‘Seigneur, si j’ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, ne passe pas ainsi devant ton serviteur !’ )

C’est de ce verset que le Talmud déduit qu’offrir l’hospitalité est plus important que recevoir la présence divine, Avraham Avinou ayant en effet interrompu son dialogue avec le Saint béni soit-Il en vue d’accueillir des invités dans sa tente (Chabbat 127).

On raconte qu’un invité se présenta à la porte de Rabbi ’Haïm de Brisk zatsal et, pensant qu’il s’agissait d’un érudit, ce dernier s’empressa de le recevoir avec tous les honneurs dus à un homme de son rang. Il lui servit les mets et les boissons les plus raffinés et alla même jusqu’à lui faire son lit.

” A sa sortie de l’hôpital en Janvier 2013 “

Une femme a raconté l’anecdote suivante à propos du Rav Ovadia Yossef, qu’elle avait reçu chez elle en Egypte, alors qu’il était le Grand-Rabbin du Caire à l’époque.

Un soir, pendant qu’il étudiait, elle lui apporta un plat de viande agrémenté de pommes de terre dans une assiette. Plusieurs heures après, la femme revint pour finalement se rendre compte que le plat était intact. Le Rav n’avait rien mangé ! Elle se permit de lui faire la remarque et lui demander la raison. Mais il la remercia en lui disant qu’il avait parfaitement bien mangé le dîner du soir. Elle lui expliqua son étonnement et revint à la charge : “Rav, regardez cette assiette, c’est bien celle que je vous ai apporté, elle est intacte non ?”.

Un peu plus tard, elle comprit que le rav avait mangé l’assiette d’à côté, celle qui contenait 4 savons solides… sans se rendre compte de quoi que ce soit d’anormal.

C’est ce désir puissant de connaitre Hachem qui lui a mérité d’avoir une telle force de concentration, au point d’annuler totalement ses besoins physiques élémentaires…

Les dernières paroles du Rav Ovadia Yossef

Au cours des deux mois précédant son décès – depuis qu’il était tombé chez lui -, le décisionnaire de la génération, Rav Ovadia Yossef souffrait de douleurs atroces qui l’empêchaient de continuer à agir et à mener son mode de vie normal, qui était principalement d’être affairé assidûment à l’étude de notre sainte Torah.

A Motsaé Chabbath de ‘Hol Hamo’èd Souccot, le Rav a été hospitalisé pour la dernière fois à l’hôpital « Hadassa Ein Kerem » du fait que son état se dégradait, et afin de soulager ces horribles douleurs qui le tourmentaient. Le Rav fut donc endormi et branché à un appareil respiratoire.

Claude se demandait “sincèrement” pourquoi le Judaïsme attachait-t-il tant d’importance à des détails insignifiants ? Quelle quantité de Matsa il faut manger, quelle cuillère utiliser pour le lait, laquelle pour la viande, comment dois-je attacher mes lacets ou encore ne pas trier mes pistaches le Chabbath…
