US Spying on Israeli Army: Latest NSA leaks claim American agencies are spying on Israeli drones

Israel is not only a US ally that shares access to American intelligence, but also a target for US spying, according to the New York Times, which on Nov. 2 cited classified documents leaked by former US NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The 7-page report describes close ties between the NSA and Israeli defense Forces. It said Israel’s Military Intelligence Unit 8200, a signals intelligence-gathering unit, is provided with raw eavesdropping data and offers its ally the same in return. The article also says the NSA was tracking “high priority Israeli military targets,” such as Israeli drones. Another Israeli military target specified in the files is the Black Sparrow missile system, which the US recently prepaed for possible military action against Syria.

Polish Song of Jemen Jews

Composers: Henoch Kohn, Moshe Wileński, Hebrew lyrics: Natan Alterman
Vocal: Olga Mieleszczuk, Lira: Boaz Galili, Saz: Ittai Binnun, video: Marcin Koźlinski
arrangement: Olga Mieleszczuk

Two combined songs “a la orientale”,one was sung by Hanka Ordonówna in Warsaw in 30-thies and second by Soshana Damari in late 40-thies in Tel Aviv. Both written by Polish composers, inspired by Jemen Jews folklore. Great example of orientalism.
Composer of the first one Henoch Kohn came from Lodz and was part of artistic group Yung Yidish. He composed music to the famous movie The Dybbuk based on the celebrated play of the same name by S. Ansky.
Second was written by Moshe Wileński, who left Warsaw already in 30-thies and immigrated to Palestine. Together with Natan Alterman – also from Warsaw – they created first Hebrew cabaret Li-La-Lo (For me, for her, for you), which was inspired by cabarets from Warsaw.

“Winston Churchill: Walking With Destiny”

The newest production from the Moriah Films Division of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, focuses on the years 1940 and 1941, when the Swastika flew over continental Europe. Only England with her back to the wall, under Winston Churchill, remained defiant. Walking With Destiny highlights Churchill’s years in the political wilderness, his early opposition to Adolf Hitler and Nazism, and his support for Jews under threat by the Nazi regime. As historian John Lukacs explains, Churchill may not have won the War in 1940, but without him, the War most certainly would have been lost. Sir Martin Gilbert, historical consultant for the film and Churchill’s official biographer, adds that had Churchill’s warnings about Nazi Germany’s racial policies towards Jews been heeded in the early 1930’s, the Holocaust may never have occurred. The film examines why Winston Churchill’s legacy continues to be relevant in the 21st Century and explores why his leadership remains inspirational to current day political leaders and diplomats

The 50 Years War: Israel And The Arabs — Complete Documentary: Episode 1 of 2

Award-winning PBS documentary on the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The conflict in the Middle East between Israel and its neighbors is given comprehensive treatment in this award-winning documentary produced by PBS. Using archival footage and extensive interviews with participants, the production begins by explaining conditions in Palestine at the end of World War II and the crisis created by the exodus of European Jews who went to the Middle East after the Holocaust. The withdrawal of the British, who had controlled Palestine for decades, is detailed, as is the creation of the state of Israel. Much of the region’s history is complex, with the local struggles being conducted at times as a part of the cold war between the United States and the Soviet Union, but these videos do an admirable job of explaining the complexities of the situation.

The segment on the Six Day War, for example, is masterful, with the scenes shifting from Israel to Egypt to Washington to Moscow, the story developing before the viewer’s eyes. The 50 Years War is often a tale of mistrust and betrayal, but this production strives to present a balanced view of history, and is not only impressive for its command of the facts but for its skillful and often dramatic presentation of history.

Whatever your views are on the conflict, all should watch this masterful, detailed, and insightful documentary on the Arab-Israeli war.
