The Music of My Jewish Heritage selected clips

29.11.2013

What fascinates me more than the specific type of Jewish music contained in it, or even the history of the brothers about whom the original CD was made – is the many examples of conversational Jewish ethnicity that you get to see and hear – the inflections; the intonations; the style, the rhythm, the idioms, the facial movements, the gestures, etc. It intrigues me because it’s so uniquely Jewish, familiar to everyone who has any relatives whose ancestors were from Eastern Europe, and because it still exists even today – at least among those of my generation.

Theodor Herzl The confrontation

 29.12.2013

This long-suppressed, finally declassified in 1973 document, displays striking similarities between Herzl’s essay published in 1897 titled “The Jewish State” and Protocols 1 and 20:

The Jewish State
Theodor Herzl’s Program for Zionism
http://www.mideastweb.org/jewishstate…

Theodore Herzl- “Every point which arises in the relations between nations is a question of might. I do not here surrender any portion of our prescriptive right when I make this statement.
In the world as it now is and will probably remain, might precedes right. For us to be loyal patriots as were the Huguenots who were forced to emigrate is therefore useless. The Jews must acquire economic power sufficiently great to overcome prejudice against them.
When we sink, we become a revolutionary proletariat, but when we rise, there rises also our terrible power of the purse.”
http://www.zionism-israel.com/js/Jewi…
http://mailstar.net/herzl-jewish-stat…

From The Protocols: “According to the law of being, might is right. Our right lies in force. Through our financial dominance we will manipulate capital, create depressions, and bankrupt Gentile states.
In our hands is the greatest power of our day — gold. We shall not fail with such wealth to prove that all the evil we have had to commit has served to bringing everything into order.
We shall contrive to prove that we are benefactors who have restored to the mangled earth the true good of the person, on the condition, of course, of strict observance of the laws established by us.”

CLOSELY ASSOCIATED WITH THEODORE HERZL, was Max Nordau, who convinced the Zionist leader to organize the First Zionist Congress of 1897.

El Lissitzky | Movie of the Life

 16.02.2013

El Lissitzky | Movie of the Life

This film was produced by the Lissitzky Center, Novosibirsk in 2003.

The movie was directed by Alexandra Arkhipova and commented by her and Dr.Alexander Kantsedikas. Additional support was provided by Sergey Lissitzky and Tamara Lissitzky.

El Lissitzky was the Russian avant-garde’s unofficial emissary to the West, traveling and lecturing extensively on behalf of Russia’s modern artists who believed that abstraction was a harbinger of utopian social values. Basing himself in Berlin and Hanover in the 1920s, Lissitzky helped produce publications and organize exhibitions promoting both Russian and Western art that shared a common vision of aesthetics steeped in technology, mass production, and social transformation.

While Lissitzky was teaching architecture and graphic design at the Artistic Technical Institute in Vitebsk, his art shifted from figuration to geometric abstraction. Under the tutelage of Suprematist painter Kazimir Malevich, Lissitzky began a body of work he would later call Prouns (an acronym for “Project for the Affirmation of the New” in Russian). These non-objective compositions broadened Malevich’s Suprematist credo of pure painting as spiritually transcendent into an interdisciplinary system of two-dimensional, architectonic forms rendered in painted collages, drawings, and prints, with both utopian and utilitarian aspirations.

An english version is being prepared by by MTA Publishing at the M.T. Abraham Foundation.

The M.T. Abraham Foundation promotes pioneering scholarship and research in art history, to that end it organizes international traveling exhibitions of works from the Foundation’s own collection of Russian and European modernism, Impressionist and Modern art to museums and art institutions worldwide.

In its desire to assist museums and art institutes to promote an appreciation of art, the Foundation is continually expanding its current collection with the aim of creating a wide-ranging and comprehensive body of works in the above schools of fine art from which additional and frequent traveling exhibitions can be mounted.

M.T. Abraham Foundation  Edgar Degas-Figures In Motion at the State Hermitage Museum

11.12.2013

Edgar Degas-Figures In Motion at the State Hermitage Museum
December 21, 2013 – February 16, 2014
St. Petersburg, Russia

Born in 1834 as Hilaire-Germain-Edgar de Gas, the artist Edgar Degas began sculpting in wax circa 1860. He modeled a large number of his waxes in conjunction with his well-known paintings and drawings. His most important wax sculpture, The Little Dancer, Aged Fourteen, was exhibited in the 1881 Sixth Impressionist Exhibition in Paris.

The wax sculpture, dressed with a bodice, tutu, slippers and a wig made with real hair, was radically different from any sculpture previously seen. It caused a sensation. While some reviews were very favorable, most were hostile and negative, the reason why Degas never exhibited another sculpture during his lifetime. Shortly after his death in 1917 his heirs found about 150 of his wax sculptures scattered around his home and studio. Seventy-four were cast in bronze. The subjects included his highly regarded dancers in motion, dancers at rest, horses in motion and at rest, bathers and seated figures.

The State Hermitage Museum is presenting this exhibition, “Edgar Degas-Figures In Motion” to highlight the importance of the bronze sculptures of Edgar Degas and place them in the proper historical context of modern masterpieces. The entire collection of 74 bronze sculptures will be on loan to the museum for two years, courtesy of the M.T. Abraham Foundation, Paris.

A scholarly hardcover catalog will accompany the exhibition and include essays by Dr. Jon Whiteley, Dr. June Hargrove, and Ms. Geraldine Norman with forewords by Dr. Mikhail B. Piotrovsky and Mr. Amir G. Kabiri.

The exhibition will open 20 December 2013 at 18:00, The General Staff Building, 6–8 Dvortsovaya Sq., St. Petersburg, Russia. Entrance under the Arch of the General Staff Building.

Opening Hours: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 10.30-18.00. Wednesday: 10.30-21.00. Closed Monday.

Jüdisches Leben: Kaschrut – Das biblische Kochbuch

29.02.2012

Das ist nicht ganz koscher – eine Redewendung, die längst in unseren Sprachalltag eingedrungen ist. Doch was bedeutet das eigentlich – koscher?

Kreuzfahrt mal ganz koscher
