Saving Muhammad Zoabi

Why has this 17-year-old Arab-Israeli become a household name in the Jewish state? Why did he have to flee the country and go underground?

Listen to Muhammad Zoabi, cousin of infamous Knesset Member Haneen Zoabi — who takes part in openly subversive activities against the state — share a message of inspiration, courage and moral clarity that runs totally counter to her attitudes towards Israel.

Nouria Benghebrit, ministre algérienne et d’origine juive… Et Alors ?

07.05.2014

Anniversaire Andree Geulen – On the birthday of Andree Geulen.

A song written in honor of Andree Geulen on the occasion of her 90th birthday. In Belgium, during the Holocaust, she undertook the rescue of many Jewish children.

Paroles: Dalia et Shaul Harel, Dan Almagor. Musique: Rafi Kadishzon. Chant: Keren Hadar.
Lyrics: Dalia and Shaul Harel, Dan Almagor. Music: Rafi Kadishzon. Vocalist: Keren Hadar

Voici comment…
On donnait Aïda à Massada.

Psalm 115 (12-18)

Sarahs Schwestern – Jüdische Frauen in Deutschland

Arte Doku: Nicht ganz koscher

Wie lebt man also “koscher”?

15.02.2015
Einige Muslime vertreten antisemitische Thesen.

Read More Button--orange

Was sagt uns Raschi hiermit?

Was soll er ihnen sagen?

Rabbi Auerbach bestand jedoch darauf.

Was hatte Rabbi Auerbach getan?

Stimmen).

Orthodox Jewish neighborhood of Brooklyn

http://israelvideosfeed.comBorough Park (usually spelled Boro Park by its residents), is a neighborhood in the southwestern part of the borough of Brooklyn, in New York City in the United States; Borough Park covers an extensive grid of streets between Bay Ridge and Prospect Park. Borough Park had its beginnings in a few streets of cottages called “Blythebourne” erected in 1887 by the speculative builder, Electus B. Litchfield.Another developer, William Reynolds, built more speculative housing in the area, which was served by a steam railroad, the Brooklyn, Bath and Coney Island West End Line.
Borough Park is home to one of the largest Orthodox Jewish communities outside of Israel, with one of the largest concentrations of Jews in the United States, and Orthodox traditions rivaling many insular communities. Since the average number of children in Hasidic and Hareidi families is 6.72, Borough Park is experiencing sharp growth. It is an economically diverse area, with rich, working class and poor people living side-by-side and going to the same schools and synagogues.
Its heart lies between 9th and 18th Avenues and 40th and 61st Streets. Borough Park is patrolled by the NYPD’s 66th [6] Precinct and by Boro Park Shomrim Citizen Safety Patrol

Russian-Jewish songs in Israel (Israel Russia Russian Jews

The Israeli film Green Chariot, explores life in Israel and Tel Aviv and identity as a Russian Jew and the Russian Jewish community of Israel. This song was originally written in Yiddish by Ovsey Driesse (овсей дриз), and set to music in Russian by Alexander Sukhanov. Although the song has hasidic origins, referring to the Merkava (flying chariot) of Hasidic belief, after Sukhanov’s adoption it became a favourite song of all the Russian children in Sovi

Rabbi Arthur Waskow’s introduction by Rabbi David Saperstein, Nov 3, 2013

08.11.2013
This video comes from “This is What 80 Looks Like!” — the event which honored Rabbi Arthur Waskow and Gloria Steinem on Nov 3, 2013, as they approached their 80th birthdays. Reb Arthur, founder and director of The Shalom Center, was introduced by Rabbi David Saperstein, director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, who was recently named the most influential rabbi in America.

This video has the full Introduction by Rabbi Saperstein. A front-page article about the event in the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent reported some of its highlights:

“With the 1969 publication of Waskow’s Freedom Seder, the entire course of contemporary Jewish liturgical writing was altered. Waskow’s take on the Seder completely reimagined a traditional text and raised urgent moral issues by focusing on the struggles of African-Americans.
“He has had a profound impact on the Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist movements and it is time — and then some — that he be acknowledged.”

Click on “Read More” just below, to view the video:
The several “80” events were sponsored by The Shalom Center (www.theshalomcenter.org) to celebrate elder-activism and “two lifetimes speaking truth to power.” During the afternoon, Ms. Steinem and Reb Arthur met with 18 “Youngers” for a two-hour intergenerational conversation on activism. After a Celebration Dinner, nearly 500 supporters packed the Mishkan Shalom synagogue, Philadelphia, PA with standing-room-only, to hear Letty Cottin Pogrebin, co-founder of Ms. magazine and noted author on Jewish feminism, introduce Ms. Steinem; Rabbi Saperstein introduce Reb Arthur; and Dr. Dan Gottlieb, host of NPR/ WHYY radio show “Voices in the Family,” interview the two 80-year-old activists.

Abel Meeropol

From Wikipedia

Abel Meeropol (February 10, 1903 – October 30, 1986) was an American writer, teacher[1] and song-writer, whose works were published under his pseudonym Lewis Allan. His best-known song is “Strange Fruit” (1937), especially as recorded by Billie Holiday.

He and his wife Anne cared for and adopted Michael and Robert, the two young sons of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who were orphaned after their parents were executed for treason. The boys took the Meeropol surname to gain some privacy.[2]

Meeropol wrote the anti-lynching poem “Strange Fruit” (1937), which was first published in the Marxist publication, The New Masses. He later set it to music. The song’s best-known recordings and performances were by Billie Holiday and Josh White.[3] Billie Holiday claimed in Lady Sings the Blues, that she co-wrote the music to the song with Meeropol and Sonny White, but Meeropol was the sole writer of both the lyrics and melody.Read More Button--orange

Jewish Life in Argentina Reflected in Yiddish Tango

25.08.2014
Jewish people from across Europe and Russia have been immigrating to Argentina for hundreds of years. They brought with them dance music that was eventually mixed with Argentine tango. The result is Yiddish tango — a fusion of melodies and cultural experiences that is still evolving today. Elizabeth Lee reports from the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, where one band is bringing Yiddish tango to an American audience.

Hava Nagila

From Wikipedia

Hava Nagila” (הבה נגילה Havah Nagilah, “Let us rejoice”) is an Israeli folk song. It is perhaps the first modern Israeli folk song in the Hebrew language that has become a staple of band performers at Jewish weddings and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs. It was composed in 1920s Palestine at a time when Hebrew was first being revived as a spoken language for the first time in 2,000 years (in other words, since 70 CE, the destruction of the Second Temple). For the first time, Palestinian Jews were being encouraged to speak Hebrew as a common language, instead of Yiddish, Arabic, Ladino, or other regional Jewish languages

The Restorer of Esther & Mordechai’s Tomb

Elias Gabbay, today a top architect in Beverly Hills, California, reminisces about his work in the 1970s renovating and restoring the tomb (by tradition) of Esther and Mordechai in Hamadan, Iran. Gabbay transformed the site, adding a subterranean synagogue/chapel and creating an open entrance plaza to the shrine. Gabbay notes that the synagogue’s roof – built in the shape of a Jewish star – is visible in Google Earth. He also explains how the restoration was an interfaith project.

History of the Jews in Greece

Interior of the Kahal Shalom Synagogue in Rhodes (city).

From Wikipedia,

Jews have been present in Greece for a little more than two thousand years. The oldest and the most characteristic Jewish group that has inhabited Greece are the Romaniotes, also known as “Greek Jews”. However, the term “Greek Jew” is predominantly used for any person of Jewish descent or faith that lives in or originates from the modern region of Greece.

Aside from the Romaniotes, a distinct Jewish population that historically lived in communities throughout Greece and neighboring areas with large Greek populations, Greece had a large population of Sephardi Jews, and is a historical center of Sephardic life; the city of Salonica or Thessaloniki, in Greek Macedonia, was called the “Mother of Israel”.[1] Greek Jews played an important role in theearly development of Christianity, and became a source of education and commerce for the Byzantine Empire and throughout the period of Ottoman Greece, until suffering devastation in the Holocaust after Greece was conquered and occupied by the Axis powersin spite of efforts by Greeks to protect them.[2][3] In the aftermath of the Holocaust, a large percentage of the surviving community emigrated to Israel or the United States. Photo by Wikipedia  Read More Button--orange

From Wikipedia

A Jewish community was present before the Habsburg takeover, and is attested to have been overseen by a starost.

Many Jews fleeing the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria (as well as other Habsburg areas) from intense persecution and anti-Semitism during the Middle Ages settled in Rădăuţi. The community was allowed a degree of self-administration, and witnessed a period of prosperity and cultural effervescence during the 19th century.

JN1’s Ron Jacobsohn explores the meaning of Purim in Judaism

Ron Jacobsohn, JN1 Correspondent:
Purim is considered the happiest and funniest holiday in the Jewish calendar but is this just the modern interpretation of Purim. We went to find out how much fun is actually allowed on Purim and why do pretended to eat the ears of the one of the biggest Jew hatter, Haman.

So lets start from the very beginning why do we even celebrate the holiday of Purim?

Prof. Avigdor Shinan, Hebrew University:
“Purim became a very happy holiday, kids, costumes, people enjoying it but that’s not the original meaning of Purim. Purim was very solemn holiday in which people celebrated the salvation from Haman the first anti-Semite person in history.
The idea of costumes and drinking too much and enjoying and having real fun it’s a modern idea only maybe 300-400 years ago and initiated in Europe probably as an imitation of Carnivals which took place in Venice and other places. And, today, unfortunately this seems to be the most important part of Purim, which it is not.”

And like every Jewish holiday nothing is really as it seems on the surface, so what does Purim symbolize for the Jews?

Rabbi Shaul Yudkevitz, Live Kabbalah:
“Purim is a point of total darkness that comes before the light before the sun light, before the sunrise. The Kabbalist look at Purim as something that is very personal, every person has moments in his life in which everything looks dark, grim and it’s like coming to a dead end. And many times this is the most amazing moment in this persons life, because that negative moment, that gruesome, dark moment, is exactly where the person is giving birth to a new perception about life, a perception of reborn and starting all over again from a different point of view and that’s called the place of Ad-De-Lo-Yada – not knowing at all, one day in the year is on Purim that you drink to a level in which the good and the evil look to you the same. And you can’t tell between the bad guys and the good guys because without that good guys won’t start to work and change the world, so thanks to the bad guys good things are happening.”

The one food item everyone associates with Purim are the Human Taschen, those poppy seeds filled cookies, which for some odd reason were called in Hebrew, Hamman’s Ears. So why would we eat someones ears on Purim?

Prof. Avigdor Shinan, Hebrew University
“Ears because its looks like ears, its triangle, it looks like an ear, it’s a simple misunderstanding of a German-Yiddish word, it looks like a triangle so it may in a way remind us of an ear but it was field with poppy seeds, which in German-Yiddish is called Mon, which is Mohn. And as a people didn’t really understand what Mohn means they connected it to this guy from the Megila, Haman, and that’s how it became the ears of Hamman but it has nothing to do with Hamman, we are not eating his part, we are not cannibals and we are not enjoying eating parts of any human beings especially not such an enemy. So that’s how it became to be called and if you like ‘Osney Hamman’ (Hamman Ears), which is the Hebrew name for this, enjoy it without going back to the history of this word.”

Ron Jacobsohn, JN1 Correspondent:
So no matter how we want to interpret the holiday as adults, let’s not forget that first and foremost Purim is the biggest Jewish holiday for kids with all the costumes and fun gifts.
For JN1 I am Ron Jacobsohn, wishing all our viewers Happy Purim from Jerusalem

The Story of the Jews with Simon Schama

On March 19, Simon Schama was joined onstage by Adam Hochschild to talk about The Story of the Jews, Mr. Schama’s multimedia account of Jewish history from 1000 BCE to present times. He also showed clips from the five-part PBS documentary series. Although Judaism is the only religion that commands us to remember for future generations, Mr. Schama is determined to portray Jewish history not as a history of suffering or Jews as a people apart. It was an entertaining evening with two charming intellectuals on subjects usually discussed reverentially

STAND WITH ISRAEL

SRAEL is the historic homeland of the Jewish people. God gave that land to the descendants of Abraham and Sarah, who are the Jews. The Bible says he’ll never break that covenant: Judges 2:1 “I brought you unto the land which I swore unto your fathers; and I said, I will Never break my covenant with you”. God set forth what he had done for Israel, and what he had promised.

Jewish Treats Acts of Kindness for Israel

15.07.2014
On this Fast of the 17th of Tammuz, Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald, the Director of NJOP, discusses how remembering what happened on this day in Jewish history helps us identify with our past but it is also a day when we need to identify with the present and future. Even while people are protecting themselves from Hamas’ rockets, some admirable stories are coming out from Israel. Rabbi Buchwald tells of a couple that’s wedding was canceled in the south of Israel due to rockets nearby and a councilman treated them to a wedding in Jerusalem. This should remind us that all the meritorious acts will be for the merit of those in Israel. So let’s use this day and the coming days to do acts of kindness so that our people will be spared any future sorrow and God should bless us with goodness and peace.

KiruvMedia Subbotniks – Russians who embraced Judaism – Khazars and more…

25.06.2014

The Subbotniks were ethnic Russian peasants in southern Russia who embraced Jewish practice and converted to Judaism more than 200 years ago under the Czarist regime.
They were referred to by the term “Subbotniks” because of their love of the Subbot, which is Russian for Sabbath.
In the early 19th century, Czar Alexander I expelled them from their homes and deported them to the far reaches of the empire as punishment for their adoption of Judaism.
They were later ruthlessly persecuted by the Communists, and thousands of them were murdered by the Germans after the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union in World War II.
There are still an estimated 15,000 Subbotnik Jews living primarily in southern Russia and in Siberia, most of whom wish to return to the traditions of their ancestors and emigrate to Israel.

Midterm Research Project

The aim of this project is to investigate the influence of political leaders on the Arab-Israeli Conflict, specifically the Six-Day War. An examination of the personal characteristics and foreign policy patterns of Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol and Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser will determine the influence of the leaders on all three levels of geopolitical analysis. The first objective of the project will be a breakdown of the two politicians distinct backgrounds and include a demonstration of their backgrounds influence on foreign policy. Next, the project will investigate the leaders roles in deciding to exercise hard power, intertwining personal choice with internal and external force; and finally, it will determine eachs contribution to conflict management in the brief dispute.

Henny Youngman.jpgHenny Youngman

From Wikipedia,

Henry “Henny” Youngman (original Yiddish surname Yungman;[1] 16 March 1906 – 24 February 1998) was a British-born American comedian and violinist famous for his mastery of the “one-liner”. His best known one-liner was “Take my wife…please”.

In a time when many comedians told elaborate anecdotes, Youngman’s routine consisted of telling simple one-liner jokes, occasionally with interludes of violin playing. These depicted simple, cartoon-like situations, eliminating lengthy build-ups and going straight to the punch line. He was known as “The King of the One Liners”, a title conferred to him by columnist Walter Winchell. A stage performance by Youngman lasted only fifteen to twenty minutes but contained dozens of jokes in rapid-fire succession. Photo by Wikipedia Read More Button--orange

Judah ben Samuel of Regensburg

From Wikipedia,

Judah ben Samuel of Regensburg (1150 in Speyer – February 22, 1217[1] in Regensburg), also called HeHasid or ‘the Pious’ in Hebrew, was a leader of the Chassidei Ashkenaz, a movement of Jewish mysticism in Germany considered different from kabbalistic mysticism because it emphasizes specific prayer and moral conduct.

Judah settled in Regensburg in 1195. He wrote Sefer Hasidim (Book of the Pious), Sefer Gematriyot (a book on astrology) and Sefer Hakavod (Book of Glory), the latter has been lost and is only known by quotations that other authors have made from it. His most prominent students were Elazar Rokeach and Moses ben Jacob of Coucy.

udah was descended from an old family of kabbalists from Northern Italy that had settled in Germany. His grandfather Kalonymus was a scholar and parnas in Speyer (died 1126). His father Samuel, also called HeHasid (“the pious”), HaKadosh, and HaNabi,[2] was president of a bet ha-midrash in Speyer, and from him Judah, together with his brother Abraham, received his early instruction. Samuel[3] died while Judah was still young.[4] About 1195 the latter left his native place and settled in Regensburg (Ratisbon), on account of an “accident”[5] – most probably a ritual murder accusation Feb. 13 1195 (see e.g. Israel Yuval: Two Nations in Your Womb (2006) p. 171) and the following persecution experienced by the Jews of Speyer.Photo by Wikipedia Read More Button--orange

Jewish History Manifesto by Dr. Henry Abramson

15.02.2015
“Imagine that, while browsing in the library, you come across one book unlike the rest, which catches your eye because on its spine is written the name of your family. Intrigued, you open it and see many pages written by different hands in many languages. You start reading it, and gradually you begin to understand what it is. It i the story each generation of your ancestors has told for the sake of the next, so that everyone born into this family can learn where they came from, what happened to them, what they lived for and why. As you turn the pages, you reach the last, which carries no entry but a heading. It bears your name.” Jonathan Sacks, _A Letter in the Scroll_

Berlin-Jerusalem (sub ita), Amos Gitai FILM COMPLETO

Two women, the German Else Lasker-Schüler and the Russian Mania Shohat, are each travelling to Jerusalem, a mythical but also very real city that they must confront… Based on the biographies of these two women, one of the first Russian Zionists and a German Expressionist poetess, the film moves back and forth between the dim cafés of Berlin in the 1930s and the hills of Jerusalem. Berlin Jerusalem or the history of crushed utopias…

“In Berlin Jerusalem, the city [of Jerusalem] organises the narrative: that is where the film’s two heroines want to go, where they meet each other and where the narrative ends. In this film, Jerusalem appears in all its chimerical aspects. It is a mythical city, Else Lasker-Schüler’s poetic city, but also the city of the first Jewish migrants, an Arab city and a contemporary megalopolis. Its appearance in the end and its mirage, which appears from the beginning, bind the entire narrative into parallel layers (…). Reality erupts into the film as something sudden and lethal, like the gunshots, the explosions, the chaos (…) A conventional world of ruins is transformed into a convulsive world of violence.”

Manya Shochat (1880–1961) was a Belarusian-Jewish politician and the “mother” of the collective settlement in Palestine, the forerunner of the kibbutz movement.

Manya Wilbuszewitch (also Mania, Wilbuszewicz/Wilbushewitz; later Shochat) was born in the Grodno Governorate of the Russian Empire (present-day Belarus) to middle-class Jewish parents, and grew up on the family estate of “Łosośna”. One brother, Isaac, studied agriculture in Russia. He was expelled for slapping a professor who, in the course of a lecture, stated that the zhids (a derogatory term for Jews) were sucking the blood of the farmers in Ukraine. In late 1882, he left for Palestine and joined the Bilumovement. His letters home were a powerful influence on young Manya.[1] Another brother, the engineer Gedaliah, went there in 1892, and helped fund his younger siblings’ education. From Wikipedia

Purim (/ˈpʊərɪm/; Hebrew: About this sound פּוּרִים  Pûrîm “lots”, from the word פור pur,[2] related to Akkadian: pūru) is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire where a plot had been formed to destroy them. The story is recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther (Megillat Ester מגילת אסתר in Hebrew).

According to the Book of Esther, Haman, royal vizier to King Ahasuerus (presumed to be Xerxes I of Persia[3][4][5]), planned to kill all the Jews in the empire, but his plans were foiled by Mordecai and his cousin and adopted daughter Esther, who had risen to become Queen of Persia. The day of deliverance became a day of feasting and rejoicing.

Based on the conclusions of the Scroll of Esther (Esther 9:22): “[…] that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.” Purim is therefore celebrated among Jews by:

  • Exchanging reciprocal gifts of food and drink known as mishloach manot
  • Donating charity to the poor known as mattanot la-evyonim[6]
  • Eating a celebratory meal known as a se’udat Purim
  • Public recitation (“reading of the megillah”) of the Scroll of Esther, known as kriat ha-megillah, usually in synagogue
  • Reciting additions, known as Al HaNissim, to the daily prayers and the grace after meals Photos by Wikipedia Read More Button--orange

Monument at tomb of Rabbi Meir Baal Haness

Rabbi Meir

From Wikipedia,

Rabbi Meir or Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes (Rabbi Meir the miracle maker) was a Jewish sage who lived in the time of theMishna. He was considered one of the greatest of the Tannaim of the third generation (139-163). According to the Talmud, his father was a descendant of the Roman Emperor Nero who had converted to Judaism. His wife Bruriah is one of the few women cited in the Gemara. He is the third most frequently mentioned sage in the Mishnah.[1]

In the Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Gittin p. 4a, it says that all anonymous Mishnas are attributed to Rabbi Meir. This rule was required because, following an unsuccessful attempt to force the resignation of the head of the Sanhedrin, Rabbi Meir’s opinions were noted, but not in his name, rather as “Others say…”.[2]

“Meir” may have been a sobriquet. Rabbi Meir’s real name is thought to have been Nahori or Misha. The name Meir, meaning “Illuminator,” was given to him because he enlightened the eyes of scholars and students in Torah study.[3]

Rabbi Israel Abuhatzeira (Hebrew: ישראל אבוחצירא‎), known as the Baba Sali (Arabic: بابا صلى‎, Hebrew: באבא סאלי‎, lit. “Praying Father”) (1889–1984) was a leading Moroccan Sephardic rabbi and kabbalist who was renowned for his alleged ability to work miracles through his prayers.[1] His burial place in Netivot, Israel has become a shrine for prayers and petitioners.

Rabbi Israel was the scion of a distinguished family of Sephardic Torah scholars and tzadikkim who were also known as baalei mofet(miracle workers). He is the grandson of Rabbi Yaakov Abu Hasira.[2] The patriarch of this family was Rabbi Shmuel Abuhatzeira. Born in the land of Israel, Rabbi Shmuel lived in Damascus for a while, where he studied Torah together with Rabbi Chaim Vital. InShem Hagedolim, the Chida described Rabbi Shmuel as “an ish Elokim kadosh (a holy man of God). Wise people speak of his might and wonders in saving the Jewish community from many difficulties.” Read More Button--orangeFrom Wikipedia

From Wikipedia

Simeon bar Yochai, (Aramaic: רבן שמעון בר יוחאי, Rabban Shimon bar Yochai), also known by his acronym Rashbi,[1] was a 1st-century tannaitic sage in ancient Israel, said to be active after the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE. He was one of the most eminent disciples of Rabbi Akiva, and is pseudepigraphically attributed by many Orthodox Jews with the authorship of the Zohar, the chief work of Kabbalah.

In addition, important legal homilies called Sifre and Mekhilta are attributed to him (not to be confused with the Mekhilta d’Rabbi Ishmael, of which much of the text is the same). In the Mishnah, in which he is the fourth-most mentioned sage, he is often referred to as simply “Rabbi Shimon.” [2]

According to popular legend, he and his son, Rabbi Eleazar b. Simeon were noted Kabbalists.[3] Both figures are held in unique reverence by kabbalistic tradition. They were buried in the same tomb in Meron, Israel, which is visited by thousands year round. From Wikipedia  Read More Button--orange

Aharon Rokeach.jpgAharon Rokeach

From Wikipedia

Aharon Rokeach (19 December 1880[2] – 18 August 1957) was the fourth Rebbe of the Belz Hasidic dynasty. He led the movement from 1926 until his death in 1957.

Rebbe Aharon inherited the mantle of leadership from his father, Yissachar Dov Rokeach, upon the latter’s death in 1926. Known for his piety and mysticism, Rebbe Aharon was called the “Wonder Rabbi” by Jews and gentiles alike for the miracles he performed.

His reign as Rebbe saw the devastation of the Belz community, along with that of many other Hasidic sects in Galicia and elsewhere in Poland during the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, Rebbe Aharon was high on the list of Gestapo targets as a high-profile Rebbe. With the support and financial assistance of Belzer Hasidim in Israel, England and the United States, he and his half-brother, RabbiMordechai of Bilgoray, managed to escape from Poland into Hungary, then into Turkey, Lebanon, and finally into Israel in February 1944. After Rabbi Mordechai’s sudden death in November 1949, Rebbe Aharon raised his half-brother’s year-old son, Yissachar Dov, and groomed him to succeed him as Belzer Rebbe.

Aharon was the first child born to his parents, Rabbi Yissachar Dov Rokeach and Basha Ruchama Twersky, after 12 years of marriage. He was named after his mother’s great-grandfather, Rebbe Aharon of Chernobyl, although his father later revealed that he intended to name the boy after Rabbi Aharon of Karlin. Aharon had a younger sister, Chana Rachel, who later married Rabbi Pinchas Twersky of Ostilla.[2]  From Wikipedia
