On Thursday night, the 15th of Sivan (June 12, 2014), teenage Yeshiva students Naftali Frenkel, Gil-Ad Sha’ar, Eyal Yifrach were abducted by Palestinian Terrorists after trying to make their way home. The pain that their parents are experiencing is unimaginable, and as the Jewish nation- we come together to also feel their pain. This is a time to unite with each other, pray and improve oneself. Whether it means to study Torah, pray, or do another good deed, our intentions should be that what we do should bring salvation to the teenagers, their family, and collectively Am Yisrael.

Prayer Service For Yeshiva Students Abducted In Israel

17.06.2014
There is mounting concern for the safety of three teenage boys, including one from Brooklyn, who were abducted in Israel purportedly by members of the radical Hamas group.

About 500 members of the Upper West Side Jewish community held a prayer service Monday for the teens snatched while on their way home from school.

At the Manhattan Day School, worshippers chanted prayers that reflected calls for a quick and peaceful return of the teens.

“These boys are our brothers, our sons, our grandsons,” Rabbi Mordachai Besser said.

One of the boys is 16-year-old Naftali Frankel, an American whose family moved from Flatbush to Israel many years ago. In a video message, the boy’s mother, Racheli Frenkel, expressed her gratitude for the efforts being made to find her son and she called on everyone to continue with their prayers.

Friends, family members and strangers are sending their well-wishes to the boys’ heartbroken families.

“We want to show our concern and the message we are sending is that we are with you in a show of solidarity,” Rabbi Adam Mintz, who organized the prayer service, told PIX 11 News.

Chavie Kahn, a friend of the family who has a 16-year-old said, said this case hits home.

“This could have happened to anyone of us,” Kahn said. “We all have to come together to show our support.”

Secretary of State John Kerry has condemned the kidnappings. Israeli security forces have arrested at least 80 Palestinians in connection with the case.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserts that Hamas is responsible. While Hamas has praised the kidnappings, it fell short of claiming responsibility for them.

Yeshiva BoysDear Friend,

Jews across Israel and the world are consumed with worry and fear for the lives of Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Frenkel, the three boys kidnapped by terrorists in Gush Etzion this past week, on Thursday, June 12, 2014. Since then, the Israel Defense Forces and intelligence establishment have launched Operation Brother’s Keeper and are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to locate the teens and, with God’s help, return them to their parents unharmed.

Notwithstanding that ongoing heroic operation, the Jewish nation, since its inception, has known that in addition to such efforts on the ground, it must also “grasp the tools of their ancestors,” and appeal to God through Torah, tefillah (prayer), and ma’asim tovim (good deeds).

To that end, the Orthodox Union, with its international youth movement, NCSY, and its Department of Community Engagement and Synagogue Services, and in partnership with Bnei Akiva and the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA), is launching a “virtual vigil” – an around-the-clock schedule of learning, prayer, and mitzvot, performed by OU/NCSY members and partners throughout the world. It is the hope of all involved that through these earnest efforts in the merit of Gilad Michoel ben Bat GalimYaakov Naftali ben Rachel Devorah and Eyal ben Iris Teshura, Hashem will see fit to bring them home safely and quickly.

Individuals interested in participating can go to www.ncsy.org/bring-back-boys and fill out a simple form to select a day and a 30-minute slot, and identify what activity they are committing to for that time. While it is our deepest desire that this campaign will become unnecessary even as it is launched, it is also our intent to continue this project non-stop until our boys are brought home.

Thank you.

Johann Andreas Eisenmenger and the Talmud Lecture by Dr. Henry Abramson

30.01.2014
Posing as a would-be convert to Judaism, Johann Andreas Eisenmenger studied Rabbinic literature for 19 years before publishing a massive two-volume denunciation of the Talmud called “Judaism Revealed” in 1711. His defamation of Jews and Judaism has been the foundation of much antisemitic diatribe for the last three centuries.

Donin charged that the Talmud was a noxious document that prevented the Jews from embracing Christianity, and brought a total of 35 distinct accusations against this ancient holy text. Ultimately, 24 carriage loads of Talmuds, representing 10,000 priceless manuscripts were burned in Paris on June 6, 1242. Rav Berel Wein Jewish History Crash Course

Jewish Documentary – Full Film

21.04.2009
http://JewishHistory.org Faith and Fate is a documentary telling the story of the Jews in the 20th Century.

The first Episode is called, “The Dawn of the Century” and covers 1900 – 1910.

This episode introduces the uniqueness of Jewish history in the 20th century within the
context of world history. At the turn of the 20th century, Jews were scattered across the
globe, representing only ¼ of one percent of the worlds population. It was a time of
empires, imperial rule and colonial expansionism. In Russia the masses, including the
Jews, lived in dire poverty which was compounded by grassroots antisemitism. In 1905
the Russian masses revolted and there was a general strike. On Bloody Sunday the
Czar responded with force. The Czar did not abdicate until 1917, which is typically the
date given for the second Russian Revolution, which, in turn, led to increased pogroms
against the Jews. The pogroms and the economic conditions forced approximately
40% of Jewish population to leave the Russian Empire and go to Western countries
including the United States and to Palestine and other countries as far away as South
Africa and Australia.

Emigration and the Enlightenment presented Jews with the dilemma and opportunity to
maintain or reject their traditional Jewish upbringing, and many decided to forgo their
traditional Judaism and blend in with their larger non-Jewish society. Within the
traditional Jewish world, change was occurring as well, with the rise and acceptance of
the Mussar Movement, an ethical approach to Judaism. Because Jews were not
allowed into institutions of higher education in Eastern Europe, most of them went to
study in yeshivas to sharpen their intellect. The traditional yeshiva, unintentionally,
became a breeding ground for all philosophies, Jewish and secular alike. Zionism
grew as a national movement, and was led by secular Jews antithetical to traditional
Judaism. While most rabbis rejected Zionism and its leaders, because of their
nontraditional beliefs, a minority of rabbis developed religious Zionism, which combined
traditional Judaism with Zionist philosophy. The Old Yishuv Jews, who had settled in
Palestine in the late 1800s, were committed to traditional Judaism and rejected
secular, nationalistic ideas of the New Yishuv Zionists.

The Sephardic Jews living in Moslem and Arab countries at the turn of the 20th
Century maintained their own rich Jewish traditions and heritage, which often differed
from those of the Ashkenazim. There was relative peace within the Jewish community
and among the leadership in these Arab and Moslem countries, and although life was
sometimes difficult, these Sephardic Jews did not experience, by and large, pogroms
or the influences of the Enlightenment or Reform Judaism.

In Europe, Jews were the leaders of the Labor and Socialist movements and
spearheaded the establishment of labor unions in America. The challenge of
assimilation in the United States was the greatest difficulty confronting Jewish
immigrants. Attempts were made to stem the tide. Reform Judaism became a symbol
of acceptance into modern American society and Dr. Solomon Schechter initiated the
Universal Synagogue movement which became Conservative Judaism. Also
Sephardic and Ashkenazic Jewish immigrants had to find their respective places within
the Jewish community and in their new host country, the United States, as well..
A small, strong group of American Jewish immigrants managed to cling to their Jewish
traditions and adapt themselves to the new reality in America. Meanwhile, for Jews
around the world, with the threat of WWI looming, the imperial race for supremacy was
escalating

The Story of the Jews with Simon Schama

STAND WITH ISRAEL

SRAEL is the historic homeland of the Jewish people. God gave that land to the descendants of Abraham and Sarah, who are the Jews. The Bible says he’ll never break that covenant: Judges 2:1 “I brought you unto the land which I swore unto your fathers; and I said, I will Never break my covenant with you”. God set forth what he had done for Israel, and what he had promised.

The Rebbe and The Resurgence of Orthodox Judaism

Samuel Heilman, Professor of Sociology at CUNY, explores Schneerson’s beliefs and the rise of orthodox Judaism. Rabbi Israel Meir Kahan, the Chofetz Chaim (Jewish Biography as History)

01.05.2014
The Chofetz Chaim was one of the most influential Rabbinic thinkers of the late 19th and early 20th century. Rabbi Israel Meir Kagan is known principally for his dramatically creative analysis of the topic of forbidden speech (lashon ha-ra), and rose to prominence as a major scholar-leader of the Jewish people.
