Many countries in the world have discovered the potential in the Jewish tourist and have actively started to market vacations, which are potentially lucrative for Jews as we found out when we attended the International Mediterranean Tourism Market.
The Portuguese Tourism Minister, Alfonso Mesquita Nunes, explains how his country has created a “Jewish Route” for the Jewish tourists who want to discover the countries very fascinating roots in the Jewish tradition.
Alfonso Mesquita Nunes, Portuguese Tourism Minister:
“We created the routes of the Jewish Legacy with the Jewish Quarters all over the country, we’ve got plenty of them, in a religious and also in a cultural way so its not just a religious point of view. And jointly with other traditions of the country, like its scenery, like its gastronomy, with Jewish influences also can be a very good option for a holiday destination. In the gastronomy you have Jewish influences, in the architecture, in urban planning, you can see in several places you can see the Jewish influences and there are villages in Portugal, which are clearly Jewish inspired urban planning and its very interesting.”
Nixson Young who works for the Tansinian tourism authorities explains there is a resurgence of Jewish visitors to his country as well as places to get Kosher food.

“There is a Jewish community in Tanzania, and most of them are in Dar es Salaam and in Arusha in Tanzania. The Jewish food is mainly found in most hotels and lodges, that’s where in their menu they have included Jewish food.”
The Trade Officer at the Brazilian Embassy in Tel-Aviv, Regina Wiadcz, tells us about the very vibrant Jewish history and life in her home country.

“Brazil has, I would say, the second largest Jewish community in South America, its around 100,000 people spread all over Brazil. The Jewish tourists will find a very very warm community with a lot of synagogues. The Brazilians are not racists. In Brazil you don’t feel any antisemitism, I think they are open people to receive foreigners whatever their religion is. Kosher became very trendy in Brazil. In all the supermarkets you will find, lets say, shelves especially dedicated to Kosher food, you have more than 300 trademarks of Kosher products.”
Ilan Lazarevic of Kosher Montenegro, who also serves as the EJP member of his country, talks about the renassance on the Montenegrin Jewish life, which tourists can enjoy side-by-side with the ancient Jewish history of the country.

“Montenegro has a really rich history of Judaism and now with a huge help from the European Jewish Parliament we are going to have a new established Jewish community in Montenegro, the first Jewish synagogue and cultural center, so its going to be an amazing move. A really big step for Jewish tourism in Montenegro.”
Katarzyna Sobierajska, the Polish Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, pitches Poland as one of the most fascinating places in Europe to trace a 1000 year Jewish history.

“Our history, especially during the Second World War, all monuments concerning this time are the very important for Jewish people and Jewish tourists. Many Polish cities, especially in the big cities, like Warsaw, Gdańsk and Krakow of course, there are many Kosher restaurants so everybody can find good food.”
Ecuador is not a country that one associates with vibrent Jewish life, but turns out as Oscar Ramirez, the consul of Ecuador in Israel, tells us, his country is one of the biggest manufactures of Kosher foods in Latin America.

“We have around 100 Jewish families in Ecuador, it’s a small community, they are mostly located in Quito, which is the capital, and in the second largest city which is Guayaquil, which has a smaller community. Actually in Ecuador we produce some Kosher food which is exported mostly for the United States market.”
Croatian Ambassador to Israel, Pjer Simounovic, talks about a fascinating tour of east meets west, for Jews who want to come discover traditions of both Ashkenazim and Sephardi Jews, which are both present in his country.

“In Croatia you have many different Jewish traditions. You have Ashkenazim tradition in the north and you have Sephardi tradition in Split. Croatia is also very important when it comes to Jewish cinematography. You know ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ has been filmed in an original location in Croatia.”

http://israelvideosfeed.com נולד במרגיטה שבטרנסילבניה למשפחת אדמו”רים צאצאי רבי יצחק אייזיק מקאליב. נישא לחנה שרה שפרה טאוב (תרע”ח, 1918 -כ”ד בכסלו תשע”ב, דצמבר 2011), בתו של רבי פנחס שפירא מקעכניא. ב-1939 נפטר אביו בהותירו אחריו 7 יתומים. לאחר כיבוש הונגריה על ידי הגרמנים ב-1944, מנחם מנדל עם כל אחיו ואחיותיו נשלחו לאושוויץ וכל אחיו נספו שם. הוא שרד אך עבר עינויים קשים, בהם טיפול כימי המונע מזקנו לצמוח. לאחר השואה עבר לשבדיה, שם התאחד עם אשתו שפרה (נפטרה בשנת ה’תשע”ב). לאחר מכן עבר לארצות הברית. ב-1963 הקים את מרכז חסידי קאליב בראשון לציון (קריית קאליב) ובשנת 1980 עבר לבני ברק, שם הקים את מרכז חסידות קאליב ברחוב השומר. בשנת תשס”ב עבר להתגורר בירושלים ברחוב חנה.
האדמו”ר מקאליב הוא אחד מגדולי מנציחי השואה כיום. הוא תיקן את אמירת שמע ישראל בסיום כל תפילה לזכר הניספים, וכמו כן מעודד אמירת “שמע ישראל” כזכר לקדושי השואה בסיום עצרות המוניות בציבור הדתי והחרדי. בשנים האחרונות הוא החל במפעל אנציקלופדיה לשואה לציבור החרדי ופועל להקמת מוזיאון לשואה עבור הציבור החרדי, שיהיה מוזיאון משלים ליד ושם, לאחר שלדבריו לא מנציחים מספיק את גבורתם הרוחנית של היהודים שמסרו נפשם לקיים מצוות גם בשנים ההן.

The first two days of the upcoming Pesach celebration are dedicated to the Passover Seder and the reading of the Haggadah. This year, Jewish children in Rome will have a very special Haggadah called “L’Allegra Haggadà”, the Cheerful Haggadah. Made by the children of the Rav Elio Toaff nursery school, this Haggadah is intended for other children, not only Jewish.

http://israelvideosfeed.com נולד במרגיטה שבטרנסילבניה למשפחת אדמו”רים צאצאי רבי יצחק אייזיק מקאליב. נישא לחנה שרה שפרה טאוב (תרע”ח, 1918 -כ”ד בכסלו תשע”ב, דצמבר 2011), בתו של רבי פנחס שפירא מקעכניא. ב-1939 נפטר אביו בהותירו אחריו 7 יתומים. לאחר כיבוש הונגריה על ידי הגרמנים ב-1944, מנחם מנדל עם כל אחיו ואחיותיו נשלחו לאושוויץ וכל אחיו נספו שם. הוא שרד אך עבר עינויים קשים, בהם טיפול כימי המונע מזקנו לצמוח. לאחר השואה עבר לשבדיה, שם התאחד עם אשתו שפרה (נפטרה בשנת ה’תשע”ב). לאחר מכן עבר לארצות הברית. ב-1963 הקים את מרכז חסידי קאליב בראשון לציון (קריית קאליב) ובשנת 1980 עבר לבני ברק, שם הקים את מרכז חסידות קאליב ברחוב השומר. בשנת תשס”ב עבר להתגורר בירושלים ברחוב חנה.
האדמו”ר מקאליב הוא אחד מגדולי מנציחי השואה כיום. הוא תיקן את אמירת שמע ישראל בסיום כל תפילה לזכר הניספים, וכמו כן מעודד אמירת “שמע ישראל” כזכר לקדושי השואה בסיום עצרות המוניות בציבור הדתי והחרדי. בשנים האחרונות הוא החל במפעל אנציקלופדיה לשואה לציבור החרדי ופועל להקמת מוזיאון לשואה עבור הציבור החרדי, שיהיה מוזיאון משלים ליד ושם, לאחר שלדבריו לא מנציחים מספיק את גבורתם הרוחנית של היהודים שמסרו נפשם לקיים מצוות גם בשנים ההן.
באייר תשע”ב, לאחר פטירת אשתו הראשונה, והוא בן 89, התחתן בשנית עם שיינדיל מלניק (נולדה בשנת תש”ט)מוויניצא אוקראנה ואחר מכן מבני ברק

The first two days of the upcoming Pesach celebration are dedicated to the Passover Seder and the reading of the Haggadah. This year, Jewish children in Rome will have a very special Haggadah called “L’Allegra Haggadà”, the Cheerful Haggadah. Made by the children of the Rav Elio Toaff nursery school, this Haggadah is intended for other children, not only Jewish.

http://israelvideosfeed.com נולד במרגיטה שבטרנסילבניה למשפחת אדמו”רים צאצאי רבי יצחק אייזיק מקאליב. נישא לחנה שרה שפרה טאוב (תרע”ח, 1918 -כ”ד בכסלו תשע”ב, דצמבר 2011), בתו של רבי פנחס שפירא מקעכניא. ב-1939 נפטר אביו בהותירו אחריו 7 יתומים. לאחר כיבוש הונגריה על ידי הגרמנים ב-1944, מנחם מנדל עם כל אחיו ואחיותיו נשלחו לאושוויץ וכל אחיו נספו שם. הוא שרד אך עבר עינויים קשים, בהם טיפול כימי המונע מזקנו לצמוח. לאחר השואה עבר לשבדיה, שם התאחד עם אשתו שפרה (נפטרה בשנת ה’תשע”ב). לאחר מכן עבר לארצות הברית. ב-1963 הקים את מרכז חסידי קאליב בראשון לציון (קריית קאליב) ובשנת 1980 עבר לבני ברק, שם הקים את מרכז חסידות קאליב ברחוב השומר. בשנת תשס”ב עבר להתגורר בירושלים ברחוב חנה.
האדמו”ר מקאליב הוא אחד מגדולי מנציחי השואה כיום. הוא תיקן את אמירת שמע ישראל בסיום כל תפילה לזכר הניספים, וכמו כן מעודד אמירת “שמע ישראל” כזכר לקדושי השואה בסיום עצרות המוניות בציבור הדתי והחרדי. בשנים האחרונות הוא החל במפעל אנציקלופדיה לשואה לציבור החרדי ופועל להקמת מוזיאון לשואה עבור הציבור החרדי, שיהיה מוזיאון משלים ליד ושם, לאחר שלדבריו לא מנציחים מספיק את גבורתם הרוחנית של היהודים שמסרו נפשם לקיים מצוות גם בשנים ההן.
באייר תשע”ב, לאחר פטירת אשתו הראשונה, והוא בן 89, התחתן בשנית עם שיינדיל מלניק (נולדה בשנת תש”ט)מוויניצא אוקראנה ואחר מכן מבני ברק

This year, Jewish children in Rome will have a very special Haggadah called “L’Allegra Haggadà”, the Cheerful Haggadah. http://israelvideosfeed.com נולד במרגיטה שבטרנסילבניה למשפחת אדמו”רים צאצאי רבי יצחק אייזיק מקאליב. נישא לחנה שרה שפרה טאוב (תרע”ח, 1918 -כ”ד בכסלו תשע”ב, דצמבר 2011), בתו של רבי פנחס שפירא מקעכניא. ב-1939 נפטר אביו בהותירו אחריו 7 יתומים. לאחר כיבוש הונגריה על ידי הגרמנים ב-1944, מנחם מנדל עם כל אחיו ואחיותיו נשלחו לאושוויץ וכל אחיו נספו שם. הוא שרד אך עבר עינויים קשים, בהם טיפול כימי המונע מזקנו לצמוח. לאחר השואה עבר לשבדיה, שם התאחד עם אשתו שפרה (נפטרה בשנת ה’תשע”ב). לאחר מכן עבר לארצות הברית. ב-1963 הקים את מרכז חסידי קאליב בראשון לציון (קריית קאליב) ובשנת 1980 עבר לבני ברק, שם הקים את מרכז חסידות קאליב ברחוב השומר. בשנת תשס”ב עבר להתגורר בירושלים ברחוב חנה.
